NSCC International Impact Award 2024
I won the NSCC International Impact award based on my vlog that I did for my NSCC International trip to New Zealand.
The one thing that I've actually noticed about myself since returning to New Zealand is my self confidence about being indigenous. Before New Zealand, I didn't know where I fit as I always felt like an outsider, even living on reserve my whole life but because I wasn't status for most of my life, that made me different.
After New Zealand, I realized all that political stuff doesn't matter. That's not important, those papers don't change who I really am as an indigenous person. While we were participating in a Global Citizenship program with maori children, they were all so proud of who they were. They knew who they were and they don't have these cards in New Zealand and I think that was a big turning point for me.
